Youth Football Camps in Central Texas

Football is one of the most popular spectator sports in Texas in the fall, but it also makes for fun camping experiences in the summer for kids. Both universities and private businesses sponsor camps for youth to teach fundamentals of the sport and help them develop specialized skills.

    • Texas A&M holds football camps throughout the summer, including all-skills sessions as well as quarterback, kicking and offensive and defensive line camps. There are both resident and non-resident options available.

    All-State Quarterback School

    • Held in several locations nationwide and in Canada, this two-day camp is coached by Terry Copacia, who has coached quarterbacks for more than 30 years. The Texas camp is held in College Station. It covers quarterbacking fundamentals and includes classroom time, drills, individual evaluation and video analysis.

    ASC Contact Football Camp

    • ASC offers full-contact football camps throughout the nation, including at Southwestern University in Georgetown, Texas. The camp includes full-contact scrimmages as well as the opportunity to interact with NFL pros and coaches and NCAA coaches. The camp is part of Nike Sports Camps Inc.

    Art Briles Football Camps

    • Baylor head football coach Art Briles hosts several football camps throughout the summer, including specialty camps for punters and kickers and for offensive and defensive linemen. The camps are for youth entering their freshman year in high school through seniors in the fall. Although Briles hosts other camps in the state, the Baylor camps are held at the university’s practice facility. Briles also holds a mini-camp in San Antonio.

    Brad Franchione Football Camp

    • The Brad Franchione Camp offers both day and overnight camping for youth ages 12 to 18 at Blinn College in Brenham. It focuses on basic football skills as well as weight training and flexibility. It is a no-contact camp, and there are no scrimmages, according to www.bradfranfootballcamp.com.

    Mack Brown Texas Longhorns Football Camp

    • These camps, held at the University of Texas at Austin, are geared for youth in the fourth through 12th grades and address all football skills. The school also offers the Mack Brown & Jeff Madden Speed and Explosive Power Camp, which is for youth between the ages of 12 and 18 and includes instruction in strength and conditioning.

    Sports International Football Camps

    • Former Dallas Cowboy and Pro Bowler Jay Novacek hosts a two-day camp in San Antonio for youth ages 7 to 18. In San Antonio, campers receive instruction in basic skills as well as demonstrations by Novacek. In addition, participants between the ages of 15 and 18 may become part of the “Top 30 Club,” which enables them to have detailed information sent to more than 1,500 college coaches.

    Texas State Football Camp

    • Texas State University, located in San Marcos, hosts three camps at the school, including a camp for youth in second through eighth grades and a kicking camp for eighth- through 12th-graders. The school’s mini-camps focus on fundamentals and drills in a non-contact environment. The kicking camp is run by Kick Nation Kicking Services and is geared toward teaching kicking techniques and mental preparation.
