Texas A&M Swim Camps

Texas A&M University offers summer camp experiences to children each year. The camps provide instruction in a variety of sports for girls and boys. The Texas A&M swim camp welcomes campers of all levels to its one-week sessions in June. The camp's philosophy is "Individual Attention," and that is what the coaches give every young person who attends "Aggie Swim Camp" each summer.
  1. Camp Schedule

    • Texas A&M Swim Camp is during the month of June on the campus of Texas A&M University. Campers choose from one of three weeklong residential sessions that begin on Sunday and end on Friday. During the last week of June, a shorter session, called Technique Camp, begins on Sunday and ends on Wednesday.

    Regular Swim Camp Sessions

    • The camp offers programs for swimmers at beginning, intermediate and advanced levels during each of the three regular camp sessions. Swimming activities and training take place during the three water workouts per day that focus on technique, stroke drills, starts and turns.

In the morning, all campers stretch on the deck, followed by group swim practice. In the afternoon, campers return to the pool for underwater or above-water videotaping and stroke analysis. Evening pool-time includes stroke sessions and a stroke forum, during which campers receive detailed breakdowns of stroke mechanics.

    Technique Camp

    • Session four of the swim camp revolves around "stroke enhancement and the development of strokes utilizing drills and video analysis," according to the camp description. This session is recommended for swimmers whose goal is to improve technique and increase speed.

    Other Activities

    • Boys and girls who attend Texas A&M Swim Camp have an opportunity to meet swimmers from across the United States and all over the world. The camp is both fun and challenging, and while swimming is the focus, campers also take part in non-swimming activities throughout the day and in the evenings.

Campers spend time together exploring the Texas A&M campus while they engage in social activities such as recreational games, scavenger hunts, movie nights, ice cream socials and the camp talent show.

    Facilities

    • All swim camp sessions are at Texas A&M's $12.5 million state-of-the-art natatorium, a swim center that has been host to collegiate, national and international Olympic, World Cup, National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and international federation (FINA) swimming competitions.

    Campers

    • Campers are assigned to swim groups according to skill level and age.

Each session is limited to 155 campers admitted on a first-come, first-served basis. Boys and girls ages 8 to 18 are welcome to apply. Camps fill quickly, so send in applications early to join one of the camp's sessions.

At the end of camp, each camper is given a personal DVD containing underwater and above-water videos accompanied by voiceover stroke analysis.

    Staff

    • Collegiate swim coaches analyze each camper's strokes every day.

Well-respected collegiate coaches from all over the country work with campers, and Texas A&M coaches are present at all water workouts. Every camper receives daily one-on-one analysis and detailed stroke tutorials from coaches.

    Residence and Meals

    • On the first day, campers check in and become acquainted with their roommates at the dormitory, where they will live for the week. Boys and girls then meet in their swim groups and have dinner together in the cafe.

All campers stay in clean, well-kept Texas A&M dorms with live-in adult counselors who provide 24-hour-a-day supervision. Campers enjoy three balanced all-you-can-eat meals at the campus café every morning, afternoon and evening.

Campers also have supervised free time and scheduled rest periods in and around the dormitory.
