Pre Season Drills for Football – Special Teams Drill & Quarterback Drill

Pre Season Drills for Football – Special Teams Drill & Quarterback DrillIf you’re looking for fresh ideas for pre season drills for football give these a try. The first is for your special teams and the second for quarterbacks.

Special Teams Drill:
This is a conditioning drill as well as many other technical situations.

Create two equal teams.
The kids rotate from defenders to blockers once the play if over.
Place tackling dummy(return man) ten yards away from two defenders.
Have two blockers 5 yards from tackling dummy.
The defenders are split apart and go on the whistle.
The defenders are racing to tackle dummy first and blockers of course are blocking off the defenders.

Team with the most tackles win.   I reward the winning team with less running if any at all at end of practice.   This is a conditioning drill as well as many other technical situations.

Football – Set, Find and Fire Drill
This drill improves the quarterbacks reaction upon setup.

  • The quarterback takes a quick drop and sets up to deliver the football.
  • Station three or four players down field, facing him in a horizontal line spread evenly across the field.
  • Each player has an assigned number.
  • The coach calls out a number, the quarterback must quickly set his feet in the direction of the designated player and throw the football.
