Receiver Drills for Football – Receiver Clock Drill
One of the receiver drills I would like to share with you today is the Receiver Clock Drill. This drill helps you identify ‘trouble time’–areas where a receiver has trouble catching the ball, to focus on for future practices.
Receiver Clock Drill
- The receiver must be able to receive a pass anywhere near his/her body.
- Receivers pair up with a QB or another receiver facing each other about 5-10 yards apart, depending on age.
- The ball is thrown to the receiver in a progression starting at 12 o’clock, to 1 o’clock, 2, etc.
- The receiver’s job is to properly position the hands to receive as the ball approaches each hour of the clock.
- You can add in the routine of starting over if you drop the ball, or simply counting receptions out of 12.
Game Day Drill
This is an idea I use when the guys are dog tired at the near end of practice. I call out for first offense and defense to line up. I am looking to run plays with out mental mistakes and discipline.
I will do this randomly while they are at different stations going through drills. This helps on game day to quickly get my team in and out on the field ready to go. I use my defense for kick off and my offense for kick return.
