Receiver Drills for Football – Footwork, Balance and Timing Drills

Give these two drills a try at your next practice. The Footwork and Balance drill is excellent for your running backs, wide receivers and defensive backs.   The Quarterback/Receiver Timing Drill is great for timing pattern fun also.

Footwork and Balance Drill
For: Running Backs, Wide Receivers, and Defensive Backs
Outline: Place cones at corners of 15-yard square. Line up players at one corner of square. Players then:

1. Sprint to first cone
2. Side-step to second cone
3. backpedal to third cone
4. sprint back to beginning of line

Throw a football to each player as he or she finishes the drill.   Repeat drill to other side, when all have finished.

Quarterback & Receiver Timing Drill
Run about ten series of the same pattern with the same QB and WR.
Have the QB count seconds in his head for both 3 step and 5 step drop.
Once he feels he knows how many seconds it takes the receiver to get in position have the QB do it BLINDFOLDED.
