Football Drills for Positions – Receiver Drill & Offensive Line Drill

Football Drills for Positions – Receiver Drill & Offensive Line DrillComing up with new ideas for various football drills for positions can sometimes be a challenge.   Here are two drills that we use often.

Drill for receivers.
The emphasis here is on footwork and catching.

  1. Set 5 cones in a line 5 yards apart.
  2. Have your receivers line up single file in front of the first cone.
  3. Have the receivers run a square (in short choppy steps) around the first cone, catch a pass, then run to the next cones catching passes as they finish each cone.
  4. Have them flip the footballs to a coach/player on the side after catching them.   Work on footwork and catching.

New Drill for Offensive Line
The benefits of this drill: it keeps the lineman low. If he raises up at all, he will not hit the pad correctly. It also teaches balance and works the legs.

Set a lineman in a 3 point stance at the bottom of a small hill (maybe ten yards of distance).
Place one man 2 yards away on the hill with a blocking pad.
Lineman at the bottom of the hill fires out going up hill hits the blocking pad and drives the man the rest of the way up the hill.

You can also do the drill for pulling guards. It keeps them from raising up.
