Receiver Drills for Football – The Distraction Drill
My idea for a practice drill is one that I call the distraction drill. It is a drill for wide receivers where there are two lines of receivers.
The Distraction Drill
The lines are facing towards each other and separated about 15-20 yards apart.
One line is a line for the receiving player and the other line is of the receivers trying to distract the receivers.
The distractor line is 1-2 yards closer to the person throwing the ball so they do not collide.
The idea is the coach will say “go” and the receivers will both start running.
You will throw the ball where they will be the same distance and the distractor will do anything possible to try to get the receiver to drop the ball.
They will get in front of the ball to not make it visible, yell at them and act as if they are going to lay the receiver out, or put your hands up and act like they will touch it.
The only thing is that there is no touching each other and the distractor can not touch the ball.
You can also make this into a game. Make each line a team and whoever catches the most balls and the least dropped balls does not have to run laps.
When there is something on the line the kids get more excited and try harder to distract the receivers.
