How to Lock Golf Bags to a Golf Cart

Golf clubs are an extremely valuable commodity that can be worth thousands of dollars, depending on the quality of the clubs in question. They can be stolen from outside of a club house, a vehicle in the parking lot or even your golf cart, should you leave it unattended for an extended period of time. One simple way to prevent the entire bag from being stolen, however, is to lock your golf bag to your golf cart.

Place your golf bag in the appropriate spot in the back of the cart. Secure it to the cart with the straps on the golf cart.

    • 2

Thread the cable lock through a convenient part of the golf bag. A handle, for instance, or a metal strap if there is one. A determined thief will be able to cut through most straps found on a golf bag, but the lock will at least deter crimes of opportunity.

Watch your gold bag and golf cart. Your golf bag may be safe, but golf carts themselves are sometimes stolen, and you will likely leave other valuable property in your golf cart that may be targeted.

Consider purchasing a golf bag that locks your clubs in. Even if your golf bag is locked to your cart, your clubs are still susceptible to theft. A person fleeing with a handful of golf clubs would almost certainly draw attention, but a determined thief may try something like that. There are golf bags, however, that use rigid plastic to lock golf clubs in to their slots in the golf bag, preventing individual clubs from being stolen.
