1
Put on protective gloves and leave them on for the entirety of this procedure.
-
2
Locate the hosel joint of the club. This is the small metal joint linking the shaft and club head together.
-
3
Heat the hosel joint with a heating gun. Dispense heat evenly around the hosel and don't be surprised to see small amounts of smoke escape the joint. This is the old epoxy melting.
-
4
Pull the head off of the shaft once the epoxy is fully melted. Do not pull too hard or twist, lest you damage the shaft for later use. If the head doesn't liberate from the shaft easily, continue to heat.
-
5
Set the head aside and allow it to cool completely.
-
6
Slide a replacement ferrule over the tip of the new shaft. The ferrule is a small metal or rubber ring that strengthens the bond between shaft and hosel.
-
7
Clean out any residual epoxy in the hosel with a small piece of rolled sandpaper once it has cooled completely.
-
8
Drip epoxy into the hosel joint.
-
9
Place the grip end of the shaft on the ground so the tip is sticking straight up in the air.
-
10
Slide the hosel of the club over the tip of the shaft and press it down until the two are firmly and completely connected.
-
11
Set the club up against a wall (still with the grip end on the ground) and allow it to set for at least 24 hours before using.
