1
Place the protective gloves on both your hands and leave them on throughout this entire process.
-
2
Heat the hosel (joint linking the head to the shaft) using your heat gun. Be sure to dispense heat evenly and don't be shocked if small amounts of smoke begin to form -- this is just the old epoxy melting.
-
3
Pull the shaft and head apart, but do not twist or the shaft and/or hosel can be damaged. This is especially important if you want to reuse the shaft one day.
-
4
Allow the hosel to cool completely, then clean out any residual epoxy with a small piece of rolled-up sandpaper.
-
5
Place the grip end of the replacement shaft on the ground and fit the replacement ferrule (small metal or rubber ring that strengthens the bond between the shaft and head) over the tip of the replacement shaft.
-
6
Drip epoxy into the hosel of the club head and quickly slide it onto the tip of the replacement shaft. Always fit the head onto the shaft and never the other way around.
-
7
Press the head down all the way until the tip of the shaft is flush against the base of the hosel and slide the ferrule as close up against the mouth of the hosel as possible. Alignment of the shaft is not crucial in terms of label up or down, but again, do not twist the shaft.
-
8
Remove your gloves and allow the club to set for at least 24 hours before using.
