1
Put on protective gloves and leave them on until the procedure is complete.
-
2
Heat the hosel joint of the club with a heating gun. Be sure to dispense heat evenly throughout the joint on all sides and don't be surprised if small amounts of white smoke begin to form -- this is just the old epoxy melting.
-
3
Pull the head off of the shaft once all the old epoxy has melted. Do not pull the shaft out or twist either component so as not to damage the inner wall of the hosel or the tip of the shaft being replaced, especially if you want to reuse this shaft in the future.
-
4
Pull the head completely off and set it aside so it can cool.
-
5
Fit a replacement ferrule (small metal or rubber ring that strengthens the bond between shaft and hosel) over the tip of your replacement shaft. You can reuse the ferrule on the old shaft, but it is always a good idea to have a spare handy.
-
6
Clean out the hosel joint of the head with a small piece of rolled sandpaper once it has cooled completely. The sandpaper will remove all epoxy residuals still stuck to the inner walls of the hosel.
-
7
Drip epoxy into the hosel joint and slide onto the tip of the new shaft. The shaft should be standing straight up with the grip end on the ground and the tip in the air when you do this.
-
8
Slide the ferrule in place, flush against the mouth of the hosel joint.
-
9
Remove your gloves and allow the club to set for at least 24 hours before swinging.
