Converting your Golf Cart
-
1
Purchase a conversion kit for changing electric-powered carts to gas power. This will include a new gas tank, transmission and engine. If these are unavailable, an old gas-powered cart (if available) can be stripped for the necessary spares.
-
2
Jack up the electric cart and ensure it's secure before beginning the conversion process.
-
3
Remove the battery, together with the starter and other components that connect to it, as these will be unsuitable for a gas-powered cart. Refer to the owner's manual for a list of the components that will need to be changed.
-
4
Remove the engine and transmission, leaving the housing in place for the new components.
-
5
Take the transmission and engine from the conversion kit, or gas-powered cart, and fit them into the housing. Appropriate mountings will have been included in any conversion kit you use.
-
6
Install the new electric components, key ignition, etc. that are compatible with gas-powered carts.
-
7
Mount the gas tank in a position where it is safely clear of any combustible materials and easily accessible for refueling.
-
8
Start the engine, and check the sound and performance of the new engine before using the cart. If in doubt, consult a professional mechanic.
