How to Get Your Iron Swing Back

The golf swing can be rightfully considered a never-ending journey. Golf enthusiasts can spend their entire lives looking for that perfect swing. If you took some time away from the game, or simply lost your iron swing, you can recoup it back to health in a single session. You need to follow some recommended practices to optimize the recovery time for your iron swing.

Instructions

    • 1

Go to the range. Get a bucket of at least 30 balls.

    • 2

Take a carefree set of swings. Without a ball, start swinging your club imagining a ball was there. Go through your entire preshot routine. Once comfortable, add a ball.

    • 3

Start with a short iron. Place a ball in position and take an appropriate stance. Place the ball about midway in your stance, slightly toward the front if not fully central. Stand with your knees slightly bent. Initiate your backswing and strike the ball. Focus on the tempo of your swing. Hit about 10 shots until you feel your rhythm coming back to you.

    • 4

Move to a long iron. For the long iron, place the ball a bit farther forward in your stance. Get into a good rhythm and hit at least 10 long iron shots. Focus on one topic for the entire swing recovery task. For example, think "follow through to the target." Make this focus point your area of weakness and you will begin to chip away at that insecurity. By the end of the session, you will have recovered your swing.
