Golf Schools in Iowa

Iowa has a number of golf schools and training camps that teach beginners through experts what they need to know for navigating the greens. For beginners, the schools focus on essential techniques, such as the proper way to hold and swing a club, how to drive the ball in a straight direction, chipping and putting.   1. Tournament Club of Iowa

    • The Tournament Club of Iowa employs PGA tour professionals to teach golf lessons to all who are interested. Lessons cover all aspects of the game, including the short game, long range, putting, irons and course management. The club offers group instruction for parties of two or three and junior instruction for amateurs under the age of 18. The club is located in Polk City; the club's golf course is on-site.

    FCA Golf Camp

    • The FCA Golf Ministry holds golf camps in locations all over the country, including Iowa. The FCA, which is the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, holds a one week junior golf camp in Iowa for youth between the ages of 12 and 18. Participants learn the basic of golf.     North Iowa Golf

    • North Iowa Golf is a golf club located in Mason, Iowa. The club has a golf school that offers lessons to beginners and advanced golfers. Lessons are available in half-hour sessions and can be purchased in blocks of up to eight weeks; one half-hour lesson per week. As of 2011, Dean Capesius, a PGA Class A teaching professional who has won multiple "Coach of the Year" awards throughout his career teaches golf lessons at North Iowa Golf. Capesius also invented the Axis2Angle Swing System, which is a golf swing training machine that helps users develop a straight swing.

    University of Iowa Golf Academy

    • The University of Iowa Golf Academy holds an annual camp for boys and girls between 12 and 18 years of age who are serious golfers. The camp is instructed by Division I college coaches and Class A PGA and LPGA professionals. Division I college players serve as counselors and help aid the instructors during golf lessons. Each member of the academy receives a notebook that includes notes from the lessons, NCAA recruiting tips, a detailed swing analysis, drill recommendations for future improvements and a personalized DVD of their performance to send to potential colleges and coaches.
