How to Know if a Callaway X20 Is Upright

The lie angle of a golf club is the angle at which the sole of the club head rests squarely against the ground. Because this is the ideal point of address before hitting a ball and golfers vary in height, it is not uncommon for golf manufacturers to design their clubs with a flat lie angle for shorter people and a more upright angle for taller ones. Callaway designed its X-20 iron with a standard angle as well as 1 degree, 2 degree and 3 degree upright lie angle variations. Callaway uses a simple color coding system to differentiate between the upright models.

Instructions

    • 1

Look at the top groove -- grooves are horizontal cuts made in the club face -- on the iron. The top groove will be nearest the toe of the club .

    • 2

Note the particular color of the groove, if there is one. X-20's with a standard lie angle will not have a colored groove. Upright clubs will have top grooves painted either white, green or blue.

    • 3

Determine the lie angle of the club based on the color of the top groove.
