How to Pack Golf Clubs for Air Travel

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) prohibits travelers from bringing certain items on any flight for the safety of passengers; golf clubs are not one of those prohibited items. While passengers are not permitted to carry their golf clubs on any flight as carry-on luggage in the main cabin, golf clubs are permitted as checked luggage. The TSA recommends checking with your particular airline regarding large specialty items, such as golf clubs, prior to departure, as all airlines have different policies for traveling with golf clubs.

      Pack your golf clubs in a travel safe case, such as a soft or hard case. Your soft, everyday golf bag is acceptable but hard travel cases protect your clubs from damage during transport better than soft cases do.

      Use your club covers to protect each of your clubs; this prevents the clubs from banging against one another.

      Place extra towels in your golf bag to keep the bag as full as possible and to restrict movement of your clubs. Protecting your clubs from all potential damage is imperative when checking golf clubs for air travel.

      Affix a luggage tag to your golf case stating all of your personal information in case it gets lost. Include your name, address, phone number and any other information you want the airline to have to contact you regarding your clubs.
