Match your backswing and downswing speed. This will mold your entire swing into one continuous motion. It can slow down your overall speed. This is better than just taking your club back and racing it forward as fast as possible. This activity works better if somebody can assist you. Have a golf partner watch and provide feedback. Alternatively, video tape yourself. You can even use your cell phone to record your swing. Watch the playback and adjust accordingly.

Next, hit the ball at 70 percent power. At this point, try to hit the ball between 130 and 180 yards. Finally, hit it at full power. This progression will naturally slow down your swing. Hit about 15 balls at each level. It will be useful to you to perform this activity at a driving range with yardage markers or a field where you can set up targets at the distance you want.
