1
Remove the grip of the gold club by unscrewing it. Remove the head of the club.
-
2
Pull masking tape into a straight line. Wrap the tape around one end of the golf shaft. The tape should wrap over itself.
-
3
Mount the spine finder to a vice on a table. Position the spine finder so that the fin faces upwards. The fin is a piece of metal that juts from the spine finder. Typically, it is 1 to 3 inches high and 6 to 12 inches long.
-
4
Place the golf shaft in the spine finder so that the masking tape faces the outside of the spine finder. Push the bearing of the spine finder over the shaft.
-
5
Hold the bearing of the spine finder with one hand. Push the shaft downwards with your free hand. The shaft will rotate in the spine finder. Pull your hand off the bearing and rotate the shaft a 90 degrees clockwise. Grasp the bearing of the spine finder with one hand and push downwards on the shaft with the other hand. The shaft should rotate to the same position it rotated to previously.
-
6
Mark the position of the spine using a marker. The spine is located along the part of the shaft that faces the ceiling after going through the spine finder.
-
7
Attach the club head so that it aligns directly with the spine. You should be able to draw a perfectly straight line from the marking on the masking tape to the club head.
-
8
Attach the grip so that it aligns directly with the spine. You should be able to draw a perfectly straight line from the marking on the masking tape to the grip.
