How to Play Golf Atop a Skyscraper

Lush fairways and flat greens might be the more traditional golfing environs, but the view is no less spectacular when playing golf atop a skyscraper. The trend is not a new one. New York's first outdoor miniature golf course was built atop a skyscraper in 1926. Today, rooftop driving ranges are the best way to enjoy a bit of this vertigo-inducing golfing action. The easiest way to play golf on the rooftop of a skyscraper is by staying at specific hotels, although there are alternative methods for those willing to put in the legwork.

Instructions

    • 1

Stay at the Dusit Thani Hotel in Bangkok. The Doug Hood Golf School has an outdoor practice range on top of this skyscraper that guests can use. Be prepared to get there early, as it can get very busy.

    • 2

Play on roof of the Rundle Mall in Adelaide, Australia. While others traverse the crowds, you can use the driving range atop one of Adelaide's tallest buildings. The range is open seven days a week.

    • 3

Organize a charity event. Hotels and other skyscrapers often will allow a temporary golf driving range to be set up, if it is for a charitable cause. The Waterside Plaza in New York, for example, hosted the "chipping for charity" event on its rooftop. Call around to some high-rise hotels in your area and see what they say.
