Charge a new battery fully prior to use. Recharge batteries before they drain below 20 percent capacity. Disconnect the battery charger as soon as possible after the battery reaches full capacity.
-
2
Keep your golf cart fully charged and in a cool, covered area when not in use. Charge the battery monthly when not in use.
-
3
Refrain from charging batteries in freezing temperatures or temperatures over 120 degrees Fahrenheit.
-
4
Open the battery vent caps and check water levels every month. Fill the well with distilled water up to the charging plates if the battery is not charged and 1/8 inch below the charging plates if the battery is charged.
-
5
Remove the battery clamps from the terminals. Mix six parts distilled water and one part baking soda. Spray this mixture onto the the top of the battery and scrub with a brush. Rinse with pure distilled water and wipe dry with a clean cloth.
-
6
Apply petroleum jelly to the terminals and clamps to prevent future corrosion. Replace the clamps onto the terminals.
