How to Keep Wrists Together to Promote a Good Golf Swing

If you desire to hit your golf ball consistently solid, straight and long, you need to synchronize and execute correctly all the components of your swing. Proper wrist position throughout your swing is as crucial a component in hitting a great golf shot as your backswing, downswing and follow-through are. A correct set-up and grip will help keep your wrists flat and working together throughout your swing sequence.

Apply your right hand to your left and make your normal grip. Whether you use an interlocking, overlapping or 10-finger grip, move your right hand so that your right wrist is parallel to your left wrist. Once your wrists are in position, apply minimal finger grip pressure to your club. It is critical to maintain this hand and wrist position and grip pressure throughout your entire swing sequence to pull off a successful shot.

Take your normal swing, using your core and lower body as your active swing engine. Remember to keep your wrists passively in position. Do not help to break your wrists with hand action at any point in your swing sequence. Your wrists will automatically open at the top of your backswing and close at impact. An attempt to put extra hand- or wrist-flick type action to your shot will disturb your timing and result in a missed shot.
