How to Dye Skate Holders
Things You'll Need
- Small hex socket screwdriver or hex wrench
- 1 sauce pot
- 1/2 bottle of liquid all-purpose acid dye (4 oz.)
- Paper towel
- 1 1/2 gallons of water
Instructions

1
Remove the skate holder from the skate, and then the blade from the skate holder using a screwdriver. Most hockey skates will need a hex socket screwdriver or hex wrench to remove the screws, as they are typically hex screws.
-
2
Fill a sauce pot with 1 1/2 gallons of water. Place the pot on your stove top and bring it to a simmer.
-
3
Add a 1/2 bottle of all-purpose, liquid acid dye to the water. For deeper, darker colors you can add the entire bottle.
-
4
Bring the water to a boil. Once the water is boiling, turn the burner off and drop in both skate holders.
-
5
Allow the skates to dye for about 5 minutes. Darker colors, like black, navy and hunter green, may need to be submerged in the dye for up to 10 minutes.
-
6
Remove the skate holders from the dye, and rinse them off under cool water to remove excess dye. If you like the color, set them on a piece of paper towel to dry. If you would like the color to be a bit darker, simply place them back into the pot for another 5 to 10 minutes.

7
Place the blade back into the skate holder when the holder is completely dry. Then screw the skate holders back into your skates.
