How to Set Up New Goalie Skates
Hockey goalies demand a certain level of fit from their equipment. Although modern gear is lighter and less-bulky than ever, proper fit remains essential. Typically, the best -- and only -- way to break in new gear is to wear it but, for skates, there is a faster process. Heating the skates to thermally mold them to a goaltender's feet allows for a custom fit, accelerating the break in time by a significant margin.
Things You'll Need

- Timer
- Hot pads

1
Heat an oven to 180 degrees Fahrenheit. Turn off the oven once it reaches this temperature.
-
2
Loosen the laces on the skates. Place the skates on a baking sheet. Put the sheet the oven, and set the timer for 10 minutes.
-
3
Pull out the skates, using hot pads. Immediately put the skates on. The boot will not be excessively hot. Lace them up tighter than you normally would when playing hockey.
-
4
Sit down. Wear the skates until they are obviously no longer softer from heating. The skate will mold itself to your unique foot profile.
