Decide what type of hockey job you would like to obtain. Decide if you want to work directly with players, in management, in the marketing and communications department or as a sports journalist.

Major in a related field during college. Consider sports management, athletic training, exercise physiology, anatomy, business, marketing, communications, public relations of journalism.

Apply for internships with local professional and amateur hockey leagues. Most hockey leagues off a wide variety of internships. Internships may be in marketing, athletic training, management or ticket sales.

Volunteer to coach a youth hockey team. If you want to work directly with players as a career, get your start with a youth hockey team. Volunteering shows dedication and a strong interest in hockey.

Create a strong cover letter and resume. Be sure to include all relevant experience -- volunteer, work and internships. In your cover letter, express your strong interest in hockey and what you can bring to a hockey organization as a whole.

Apply for multiple jobs. Apply for multiple jobs with different leagues, teams and organizations. Apply for jobs locally and out-of-state -- if you are willing to relocate, you may open up more opportunities for yourself.
