How to Size Women's Hockey Skates

Women's hockey leagues are found throughout the United States. In order to play the game, you need a proper-fitting pair of skates. For women, purchasing and sizing a pair of skates is no different than for men. Hockey skates are made by various companies, and they have different sizing and cuts, making using your shoe size impractical. Take time to try on several pairs of skates to ensure a proper fit.

Instructions

    • 1

Wear one pair of socks when trying on the skates and make them the same socks you wear during practices and games.

    • 2

Check each pair of skates for room at the toe box. Wiggle the toes in the skates to make sure you have ample room at the end of the skate. A proper fit allows the ties to move.

    • 3

Press your heel down and into the heel pocket. A proper fit keeps the heel down into the pocket when skating.

    • 4

Tighten the skates fully when trying them on. Try to simulate the actual conditions you use when playing the sport. Move the foot to check for any side-to-side rubbing. You want a wide-enough skate without rub. Rubbing leads to unwanted blisters.

Purchase the skate that fits the foot. Because there are many different sizing methods for skates, disregard the actual size and take the pair that fits. Most skate shops do not allow returns on skates that have been used even once. Make sure you get the right fit and ask about returns or exchanges.
