How to Use Hockey Grip Tape

Having a properly gripped hockey stick can mean the difference between scoring a game winning goal and injuring another player with a flying stick. It doesn't matter what kind of hockey you play, as both sweat from your hands and condensation from playing on ice can make the stick slick and hard to hold. This is why applying grip tape to the handle of your hockey stick is an essential part of the game. Luckily, the task itself only takes a few minutes.

Instructions

    • 1

Wrap the very top of the hockey stick four or five times with the grip tape, until you make a nub. Do not cut the tape when you finish.

    • 2

Wrap the tape slowly down the shaft of the stick. Wrap the tape tightly to prevent slack from forming, and wrap so that the edges of the tape overlap. Wrap down the length of the stick equivalent to the length of both of your hands.

    • 3

Double-wrap the end of where you want the grip tape to stop, then cut the tape from the roll with a small pair of scissors.
