Instructions

    • 1

Challenge the defender. Charge toward him with the puck. This forces the defender to skate backwards and makes it harder for him to control the play of the puck.

    • 2

Take an inside lane. Keep your defender at your side to change the pace. This allows you to make big moves. With your defender at your side instead of in front of you, it is easier for you to control the play. You are able to control your speed as well as your position at this angle.

    • 3

Watch the defender. If the defender is at the offensive blue line, see if he gives up the line. If the defender backs up, cut inside and pass the defender. If he stays on the line or is slow to move, take the puck wide around the defender.

    • 4

Vary your speed, force and moves. This requires the defender to think of different ways to defend you, slows his reaction time and gives you a chance to react.

    • 5

Take the puck as far into the end zone as possible and position yourself for the shot. This may take maneuvering as well as passing to other players and you until the opportunity arises to make the goal.
