1
Determine how big a jump you want to build. The standard schooling jump has two standards that hold up the poles the horse jumps over. The standards are usually 6 feet in height. Poles are placed horizonally between the two standards using special metal cups. These poles are usually 5 to 10 feet long.

2
Use a measuring tape and mark every 3 inches on the privacy fence posts, starting 12 inches from the bottom. Line up the posts to make sure that the holes are at exactly the same locations.
-
3
Drill the holes on the fence posts, making the holes 1/2 inch deep. These holes are for the pins that hold the jump cups.
-
4
Build the standard bases by taking the two boards and sawing into 1-foot segments. For each board, saw off a 6-inch by 4-inch triangle off one of the corners. You now have eight pieces of board ready to assemble.
-
5
Take four pieces of board and create a square around the fence post, with the triangle edges facing out. Ask someone else to hold up the fence post while you nail the base into the fence post to build the base.
-
6
Paint the standard and the poles in water proof paint. Standards and poles are usually white or brown.
