Youth Hockey Grants

Ice hockey is a thrilling and exciting sport to watch and play. However, it is also an expensive sport in which to participate. In addition to buying pricey equipment such as skates, sticks, helmets and pads, players often have to pay to rent out ice time at local arenas. Many would-be players don't have the opportunity to play because their families lack sufficient funding to afford the sport. Youth hockey grants help support players who need financial help in order to play.

    • The Ed Snider Youth Hockey Foundation is designed to give youngsters in Philadelphia a chance to play the game as well as get support in their educational pursuits. Snider, the owner of the NHL's Philadelphia Flyers, started the foundation because, he said, "hockey has made such a dramatic impact on my life, and I would like to give something back to the game that has given so much to me." The goal of the foundation is to teach young people how to play hockey while also instilling self-esteem, the value of teamwork, the importance of hard work and respect for teammates.
