Can You Paint Hockey Goalie Pads?
-
Features
-
Hockey goalie pads are made of leather and stuffed with a type of synthetic foam. A special layer of backing is also added to protect the leather from moisture.
Size
-
Hockey goalie pads are typically around 11 inches wide. The length of the pads depends on the size of the leg of the goalie the pads are being made for, but they should go from the goalie's ankle to just above his knee.
Can They Be Painted?
-
Because goalie pads are made of leather, it is not possible to paint them with any type of paint.
Decorating Options
-
Because many pairs of goalie pads are custom made, there are some possibilities for decoration. Most goalies will be able to choose the basic color of the pad he wants. There are also decoration options with smaller pieces of leather within the pad itself.
Examples of Decorations
-
Some goalies choose to put half of a design, usually the first letter of a team name, on each leg of the pads. So when they put the legs together, it forms the completed letter. One goalie chose to design his pads in the same pattern as the net behind him to camouflage his pads.
Other Design Options
-
Decorating goalie pads is difficult and can be fairly expensive. Most goalies prefer to express themselves by painting their helmet, which is much more conducive to intricate design.
