1
Stand with your feet shoulder-width apart, with your stick about a foot in front of you. Make sure your hips are low and your weight is pressed down evenly through both feet. You should not be putting any weight on your stick at this point.
-
2
Pull the puck back about a foot past your back foot, still keeping the puck out in front of you. One key to delivering a good, high shot is to keep your stick on the puck as long as possible before releasing it.
-
3
Roll the puck from the heel of your stick to the toe as you slide the stick forward. Begin with the stick behind you, the puck on the heel of the stick. As you pull the stick forward to shoot, you should roll the puck along the blade of the stick toward the toe, then use the lie of the blade to help lift the puck off the ice.
-
4
Press down on your stick as you roll the puck toward the toe. This will give you some momentum so you can snap the puck upward when you shoot. As the puck gets to the toe of the stick, scoop the puck with the toe and shoot the puck high. Make sure you push the stick with the hand that is low on the stick and pull back on the stick with the high hand. This will give you a harder shot.
-
5
Follow through on your shot, making sure the toe of the stick points to the place you want the puck to go. If you aim higher, this will help you to lift the puck higher. If you end with your stick pointing low, the puck will go low.
