How to Get a Cross Checking Penalty in Ice Hockey
In ice hockey, the word "checking" refers to any time one player pushes another. If one player checks another hard enough, it may be deemed a rough play, and the checker will get a penalty. Cross checking is slightly different than other types of checking because it requires the checking player to use his stick. Here's how a hockey player can get a cross checking penalty.

1
Hold your hockey stick in both hands. If you hold your stick in only one hand, it might be called a slashing penalty, which could get you longer time in the penalty box.
-
2
Get near the player you want to cross check. Most of the time when a cross checking penalty is called, two players are shoulder to shoulder trying to scramble for the puck. Other times, a cross checking penalty is called when a player skates after another and pushes into him.

3
Raise your hockey stick with both hands and use it to push the other hockey player in the chest or back.
