How to Use a Hedgehog Feeder in Fishing

Hedgehog style feeders have been designed with several important considerations in mind. It grips tightly to feed stuff so that the food doesn't simply disperse from the area where your hook is floating. It has a streamlined profile so that it can be cast smoothly and accurately. It has a combination of rounded surfaces and flat ones so that it neither snags with your hooks nor slides off sloping lake banks or riverbeds where you are trying to fish.

Instructions

    • 1

Wet micro-pellets lightly if you are using them. Use about a tablespoon full of water to a handful of pellets and squeeze together until the mixture can be firmly squeezed into a lump. Add more water if required.

    • 2

Fill the mold with this mixture or with ground bait, depending on which you are using. Press the hedgehog feeder lightly into the mold and smoothly slide it out to get an even lump of feed around the feeder.

    • 3

Slide the fishing line through the eye of your hook, tie in place and run the line through the tube in the middle of the feeder.

    • 4

Snap a float stop onto the fishing line below the point where you want to secure the hook and feeder and another above it, if you want to keep the feeder in place rather than leave it free running. You are now ready to fish.
