Mondopoint Sizing Explained | The Ski Workshop

Street Shoes To Ski Boots

Even with this straight forward sizing system there are a couple of nuances to take note of. Firstly, when looking at the size chart it is worth considering that often you will size down for your ski boots. So someone who is a UK 8 in street shoes would see that this converts to a 27.0 mondopoint, but often will find a better fit in a 26.0 or 26.5 boot.

What suits you will change depending on the boot manufacturer and model so it is worth trying plenty to find that perfect size and fit.

Half Sizes

The second nuance in mondopoint sizing is that manufacturers don’t make ski boot shells in half sizes. The plastic mold will be exactly the same for the half size as it is for the full size, with ski brands opting for a spacer or different liner to take up the volume. Some manufacturers won’t offer up half sizes but a boot fitter will be able to fine tune a boot to create that perfect fit.

Boot Sole Length

It is common to see the mondopoint stamped on the sole or edge of the ski boot shell alongside another number. This number in mm is the boot sole length (BSL) and shouldn’t be confused with the monodpoint size.

The BSL is the external measurement of the shell from the heel to toe and not the internal size. The boot sole length will change for each size depending on the manufacturer and boot style so it is not something that you can look at for a chart. This number is key when it comes to mounting and setting up bindings so it is worth knowing about it if you do any of your own adjustments.

Mondopoint Sizing Explained | The Ski Workshop

Mondopoint sizing for ski boots is one of the areas which adds to the mystery surrounding the dark art of ski boot fitting. Although it seems like another system to learn and understand in the long run it makes a lot of sense.

What Is Mondopoint Sizing?

In essence, the mondopoint is a standardised measurement of foot length in millimetres. So the internal length of a 26.5 mondopoint ski boot would measure 265mm from the heel to tip of the big toe, approximately. This measurement helps us and the manufacturer do away with international sizing charts and conversions whether that be US, UK or European sizing.

With a glance at the mondopoint size charts you should be quickly able to work out your mondopoint size from your regular footwear.
