How to Fill in Divots on a Snowboard

Divots, dings, scratches, gouges, holes -- eventually your snowboard is going to get a few. Whether it's an unforeseen rock because of light, early-season snow cover or the failure to stop before the snow turned to gravel, you need to get that base repaired. If the damage is modest enough, you can do this yourself.

Things You'll Need

  • Razor or knife
  • Damp rag
  • P-Tex candle
  • Lighter

Instructions

    • 1

Assess the damage. If the hole goes deeper than the base and exposes the core, you'll want to have an experienced shop tech do the repair. The p-tex from your candle will not stick.

    • 2

Clean the wound. Cut off any loose strands of P-Tex material with a razor and clean any dirt with a damp rag. Make sure it's dry before proceeding.

    • 3

Place your board in a vise or lay it flat on a workbench or saw horses with the base up. Make sure you're in a well-ventilated area or outside.

    • 4

Light the end of the P-Tex candle and slowly rotate it back and forth until it starts dripping. If there is any black carbon on the tip, drip it away into a coffee can. Then hold the candle drip end down a few inches over the gouge and allow the P-Tex to drip into the hole in the base. Overfill the hole.

    • 5

Let the P-Tex cool for several minutes and then drip more in if there's still hole to fill.

    • 6

Blow out the P-Tex candle and place it in the can or on the metal scraper to cool. Let the P-Tex on the board cool for 15 to 30 minutes.

    • 7

Hold the metal scraper at a 45-degree angle and scrape the excess P-Tex with short, steady motion. Check to see if the repaired area is flush with the base. If not, repeat scraping until it is.

    • 8

      Wax the snowboard.
