How to Fix a Cracked Snowboard

Riding down backcountry slopes or performing tricks on the pipe can cause scratches and a few cracks on your snowboard. Minor damage can be repaired at home if you have the right tools, although more serious dents and tears should be left to the professional technicians. Inspect your board after each trip to ensure all problems are fixed immediately; this allows you to ride safer and perform better on the slopes while also preventing damage from worsening.

Instructions

    • 1

Check the surface of your board. If the edge near the crack is bent out of shape, use the hammer and the flathead screwdriver to pound it. Lay the board on a flat surface and position the chisel into where the base meets the edge. Pound with medium force until the board is flat again.

Secure the snowboard in a vise and use a couple of nails to spread open the side and edge around the crack. Allow the nails to hold the space open so that glue can be put inside.

    • 3

Spread a generous amount of epoxy into the open space. Do this in a slow manner while allowing the glue to seep all the way in.

    • 4

Heat the epoxy using a hairdryer. This liquefies the glue and allows it to seep into the core of your board. Keep heating around the area of the crack until the epoxy stops bubbling.

    • 5

Remove all the nails and then place the board between two scrapers. Clamp the board down with a couple of C-clamps. Do not tighten the clamp too much because too much pressure can dent the board. Allow the epoxy to cure overnight.

      Sand off excess glue.
