How to Get Up in Powder After Falling on a Snowboard

While jamming down the packed slopes of your favorite hill, you veer off into uncharted territory. You feel your board begin to sink into the soft unpacked powder, and before you know it you're stretched out on your back. Standing up after a fall is a challenge in itself, and trying to do so in powdery snow is even more difficult. With determination and some help from the edge of your board or a nearby branch, you'll be on your feet in no time.

Instructions

    • 1

Ensure that your boots are strapped into your bindings. In order to use the leverage of your board to stand up, your boots will need to be clipped in snugly.

    • 2

Lean back and wedge the heel edge of your board against the ground. Ideally, your body should be uphill from your board. If necessary, slice through the powdery snow with the edge of the board until it makes contact with the ground.

    • 3

Grasp the middle of the toe edge of the board with your dominant hand. Reach your other hand behind you and begin to push yourself forward. As you do this, stay squat to keep a low center of gravity.

    • 4

Transfer your weight to your dominant hand as you begin to lean forward. Once you are able to lean over the tow edge of the board, straighten your knees and stand up.
