Ollie and Flip Tricks
-
After you have become comfortable in all aspects of riding your snowskate, from going to stopping and turning, you are ready to try some tricks. Start off by learning an Ollie, the foundation of all tricks in that it will enable you to elevate your board off the ground. Ollies are accomplished by a dual movement of lifting the nose of your board with your back foot and leveling the board once it is in the air by dragging your front foot to the nose of the board. After you have learned the Ollie, try a kick flip or a heel flip by dragging your foot entirely off either side of the board, thereby causing the deck to flip. Try a Pop Shove It on your snowskate by performing the Ollie and simultaneously kicking your feet in opposite directions to make the board rotate 180 degrees.
Grinding Rails and Riding Boxes
-
A careful approach to a rail or a box will help you to execute your snowskate trick successfully. There are three basic types of grinds you can do with your snowskate: 50/50, noseslide, and boardslide. To perform the 50/50, balance your snowskate evenly with both feet perpendicular to the rail or box. Balance the nose of your deck on the rail, with your snowskate perpendicular to the rail or box, to do a noseslide; and straddle the rail evenly with both feet parallel to the rail to execute a boardslide.
Grabs and Aerials
-
When you catch big air on your snowskate, use a grab to keep the board on your feet before, after or in place of a flip trick. Indy grabs are performed by grabbing the toe side of your deck with your back hand and a Melon Grab is done by holding the heel-side of your board with your front hand. A nose grab is done by hanging onto the front part of your board with your front hand while a tail grab is the exact opposite.
