How to Make a Soccer Team

1
Contact your local soccer league to find out about team registration guidelines. Registering with a league allows your team to play against other teams in regular season and tournament games. Find out about whether the team is supposed to be men's, women's or co-ed and what the age restrictions include.
-
2
Recruit players for your team. Talk to your friends and co-workers, post signs in public places, ask your online social networking friends and post ads on online bulletin boards. For an adult team, you will need enough people to have 11 players on the field at a time, plus substitutes. The league in your community may set a minimum and maximum number of players per team.
-
3
Arrange to have a place to practice, such as a community gym, local field or park. Often soccer fields must be reserved. Schedule practices for at least once a week if your team is competitive.
-
4
Assign positions to each team member. First ask players if they have experience with a particular position and assign accordingly. At any given time, there is one goal keeper, three defenders, three midfielders and three forwards. The eleventh player can either join the defense line as a sweeper, the midfielder line as a second center or the forward line as a striker.
-
5
Organize soccer drills for practices and prior to games that include passing, shooting, defending, throw-ins, corner-kick and penalty shot set-ups, cardio fitness and scrimmages. If you are not comfortable with all soccer techniques, ask for guidance from experienced players on the team or recruit a coach.
-
6
Type a schedule that includes all game and practice times. Provide one to each player. Recruit a couple of volunteers on the team to contact players in case of canceled games and practices.
-
7
Organize social events for the team, such as barbecues, hikes, pub nights and camping trips to help team members bond and to boost morale.
