How to Make Soccer Shin Guard Sleeves With Book Covers
Shin guards provide soccer players protection from errant kicks and vicious cleats. Shin guards range from small bits of cardboard tucked behind socks to bulky padded systems that protect the shins and ankles. All shin guards are made of a hard inner shell inserted into a soft sleeve. Many players elect for a simplistic shin guard design that is effective yet unobtrusive. These designs can often be made at home with simple materials. Knowing how to make soccer shin guard sleeves with book covers can save money, especially if you already own shin guard inserts.

1
Cut your stretchable book cover with scissors, on both sides, just above the pocket where a book flap is normally inserted. You should end up with two pieces, each consisting of the pocket portion of the book cover. Each piece will make one sleeve. The hard insert will slip into the pocket where the book cover is normally inserted.

2
Fold one of the book cover pieces over and sew the ends together, making a sleeve. Repeat with the remaining book cover piece.
-
3
Slip the sleeve onto your leg so that the open end of the pocket is facing upward.
-
4
Slide your shin guard insert into the homemade sleeve pocket.
