How to Kick a Ball Farther

When you approach a round ball that you want to kick a far distance, your mindset may be to use the power in your legs and kick the ball as hard as possible. However, this method may not result in the most distance. It's more effective to kick the ball using the proper physical mechanics. If you do, you'll have a much better chance of kicking the ball farther.

Instructions

    • 1

Stand about one to two feet behind the ball and relax your body. You don't want to be too stiff before approaching the ball.

    • 2

Take one long stride with the foot that is not your kicking foot. That's known as the plant foot. You use it instead of running up to the ball. You may be inclined to run up to try to gain more momentum. However, this can lead to striking the ball incorrectly.

    • 3

Swing your kick foot back with both arms slightly out to the side to maintain your balance.

    • 4

Bring your knee forward first before making contact with the ball with your foot.

    • 5

Strike the ball with your big toe knuckle. Don't hit the ball head-on with your toe or with the side of your foot.

    • 6

Follow through by pivoting your plant foot and swinging your kicking foot up and parallel to the ground.
