Keep your high school grades as top notch as possible. Test in the top 25 percent of student scores on your SATs, if possible. The higher your grade point average and SAT scores, the more scholarship opportunities you will have and the better your chances of receiving a financial reward.

Compile of list of winning softball statistics and a video reel that shows off your talent. Create a well-packaged portfolio including high-resolution pictures, local, regional and national statistics, athletic certificates acknowledging your talent and a 3- to 5-minute DVD reel. Include the portfolio with your application to bolster your sincerity of playing, enthusiasm for the game and quality of your talent.

Apply for freshman admission. Applying as a freshman to Texas Tech automatically enters you into the pool of general academic and athletic scholarships offered by the university.

Set up an application account at the ApplyTexas website. Click "My Applications" and follow the prompts to fill out the application.

Visit page six of the application to apply for scholarships. Select "Apply for Scholarships" and fill out the application and essay for the scholarship you choose. In addition to athletic scholarships, apply for the President's Ruby Freshman scholarship if you scored a minimum of 1300 on your SATs in high school. Click the "Scholarship Certification Box" tab once the entire application is completed and payment information is entered.

Write a note in the provided comments box to alert Texas Tech representatives you are sending a portfolio by mail as a supplement to your scholarship application. Include the link of your personal softball website if you posted the portfolio online. Complete and send all digital forms and portfolio packages by stated deadlines.
