1
Check with your coach or rule book to see what the league's stance is on metal cleats. Although metal cleats provide the best support while running, many leagues ban the use of them because they can be dangerous to other players.

2
Think about any past injuries or issues you have had with your feet and ankles. If you have a history of rolling your ankles, you want a pair of softball cleats that are high tops. These cleats give added support to the ankles and help prevent future injuries.
-
3
Try on a pair of softball cleats that you like. Make sure they fit properly. If the cleats are loose in any way, move to a smaller pair. It is better to wear fitting tennis shoes than loose cleats out on the field.
-
4
Avoid shoes that do not give enough room for your toes. Many pairs of cleats drastically point at the toe, leaving little to no room for your toes. Having scrunched up toes while running and fielding can be painful and cause you to slow down. If the softball cleats don't fit perfectly, move on to another pair and brand. You are going to find some brands have different fits around the toes than others.
