How to Win Softball Drills
Things You'll Need
- Rope (at least an inch thick and 36 inches long)
- Cone
- Softball
Instructions
-
Rope Swing
-
1
Set a softball atop an orange cone. Place the cone over home plate.
-
2
Instruct the player to swing the rope at the cone in an attempt to make contact with the softball.
-
3
Repeat this drill over and over with a focus of hitting the softball squarely. Adjust the hitting stance if the player misses the softball by swinging over the softball or hitting the cone.
4 Corners Fielding Drill
-
4
Instruct four players to assume positions next to third base, on second base, on first base and at home plate. The rest of the players will wait next to the third-base coaching box.
-
5
Hit a ground ball to the third baseman.
-
6
The third baseman throws the ball to second base, who throws the ball to first base, who throws the ball to the catcher.
-
7
Each player should sprint to the next base after they make the throw. The third baseman will run to second, the second baseman will run to first and the first baseman will run to the catcher. The catcher will run to the third-base coaches box, and a player who has been waiting will assume the third-base position.
Find the Ball
-
8
Instruct the players to line up at home plate with one player in the batter's box. A coach will be located in the third-base coaching box.
-
9
Instruct the player in the batter's box to take a swing and begin running to first base.
-
10
Tell the player they must look to the third-base coach after taking three or four steps.
-
11
Instruct the third-base coach to signal "stop" or "make the turn" toward second base. This will tell the runner what he should do during game play after they have hit the softball into the field.
