How to Throw a Screwball & Curve Ball in Softball

If you play softball, it is a good idea to learn how to throw a screwball and a curveball. It is easier for right handed players to throw a screwball and left handed players find it easier to throw curveballs. Whether you are right or left handed if you can throw both a screwball and a curveball you will be a double threat against your opposing softball team.

  1. How to Throw a Curveball

      Grip the ball by having a firm hold on it in between your thumb and index finger.

      Tilt your wrist to the left.

      Shift your weight from the back foot toward the home plate.

      Throw the ball by rotating your hand to the front, snapping your wrist and releasing the ball.

    How to Throw a Screwball

      Grip the ball by holding it firmly between your thumb and index and middle finger. The index and middle finger should be half an inch apart from each other.

      Curl the ring and pinkie finger on the side of the ball.

      Shift your weight from the back foot toward the home plate.

      Tilt your wrist to the left.

      Throw the ball by rotating your hand upward; snapping your wrist and releasing the ball.
