How to Fit a Softball Glove
-
1
Measure the softball glove, in inches, from the base of the heel to the top of the index finger slot.
-
2
Select a glove for a teenage or adult infielder that has a smaller pocket. This makes for an easier transition between fielding and grabbing the ball with the throwing hand.
-
3
Choose a softball mitt for an outfielder that is bigger, with a larger pocket. Gloves with large pockets are easier for catching balls and allow for slightly more error in the position of the glove when a catch is made.
-
4
For a teenager or adult, look for a softball glove that is between 11 1/2 inches and 15 inches. These are bigger than baseball gloves, which range from 11 to 13 inches, because a softball is larger than a baseball.
-
5
Adjust the Velcro on the back of the hand so that the hand can move, but the glove is secure.
-
6
Adjust the lacing to allow the glove to fit snugly while allowing the hand some flexibility to open and close.
-
7
Practice opening and closing the glove around a softball in the pocket. A properly fitted glove should be comfortable and workable.
