1
Find a team. In order to play, you must have a place to play, so find a local team. Most communites have slow pitch leagues, and new teams are always forming. Make sure to pay any dues or find any sponsors if its required. You'll be paid in return with a sharp uniform and a lot of fun.

2
Stay in shape. Before you start playing slow pitch softball, you must get in shape, especially if it's been awhile since you played any organized sports. Design a training routine and stick too it. Make sure it includes both cardio and weight training, and make sure you're hitting the gym at least three times a week. Not only will you be a better player, you'll also stay a healthy player.

3
Practice your skills. Even if you've been playing slow pitch softball for years, there's always room for improvement. Training will make you a better athlete, but practicing will make you a better ball player. So take some grounders and shag some flies, and always remember to work on your swing.

Choose your position. Maybe you're a good pitcher, or maybe you can't throw a strike to save your life. Maybe you've got a great arm from third, or maybe you're bettering catching throws at first. Find the position that feels right. Wherever you end up on the field, it should be a place where you're comfortable and relaxed. That way you can focus all of your energy on the game, not your nerves.

5
Emphasize good sportsmanship. Slow pitch softball is competitive, but it's also supposed to be fun. Get to know your team, get to know your opponents, but above all, be a good sport. There's nothing better than being able to hit the bar after the game with no hard feelings. Just remember to hit the field next week with the same intensity.
