How to Get a Sponsor for the IPSC

The IPSC is the International Practical Shooting Confederation. This organization recognizes the handgun, rifle, shotgun and action air rifle shooting disciplines and organizes matches, workshops and conferences for shooters. There are entrance fees for the matches, and you will also be paying for your guns, ammunition and room and board to attend various events. In order to bear this financial burden, you might want to seek out a company to sponsor your entry.

Instructions

    • 1

Attend matches, practice and shoot your best. In order to get a sponsor, you have to stand out from the rest of the shooters. Throw yourself into your training and compete. Once you build your reputation, you are more likely to find a sponsor.

    • 2

Attend conferences and when you go to matches, approach vendors that sell gear like ammunition, stocks, barrels and sights. Building relationships with these vendors will make them more likely to sponsor you. They might also be able to give you more information on other companies looking for a shooter to sponsor.

    • 3

Build a portfolio for yourself. This portfolio will act as your resume to possible sponsors. Put together a history of your past shooting matches with your scores and ranking in each. Include information on your training and how long you have been shooting professionally. Make sure this is typed and looks professional.

    • 4

Call the corporate offices of shooting equipment and accessory manufacturers and tell them you wish to speak with someone about a sponsorship. The corporate office will know who you need to speak with in particular and connect you with that person. Do not make first contact via e-mail, as e-mails are easy to delete on accident or overlook.

    • 5

Be persistent. Follow up with companies that you contact. Do not just leave a voice mail and expect them to call you back. You must be proactive in your search.
