Glock Extractor Removal
-
Safety First
-
Before handling your Glock, make sure that it is in a safe condition. Always remember the first rule of firearm safety: Treat every weapon as if it were loaded.
Accessing the extractor involves removing parts that are spring-loaded so you should wear safety glasses.
Eject the magazine from the handgun and clear the chamber. Visually and manually inspect the weapon to make sure there are no cartridges in the chamber.
Tools
-
The only tool you'll need for this procedure is a 3/32-inch punch or a small screwdriver.
Field Strip
-
Before you can remove the extractor, you must field-strip the handgun. Consult the manual supplied by Glock on how to complete this procedure.
Slide Disassembly
-
With the handgun field stripped, turn the slide over and use the punch or small screwdriver to push down the polymer spacer sleeve on the firing pin assembly. While depressing the spacer sleeve, carefully slide off the cover plate located on the back of the slide. The firing pin assembly and the extractor spring assembly are both held in place by the cover plate and may shoot out when the plate is removed.
Pull out the firing pin and extractor spring assemblies.
Depress and hold down the silver button on the bottom of the slide. This is the firing pin safety. With the button depressed, rotate the extractor out of the slide.
Check the extractor for wear and replace if necessary. Otherwise, use a dry rag to clean any grime from the extractor.
Assembly is the reverse of the disassembly.
