How to Sterilize a Mouth Guard

If you are involved in any rough sport, you know how important a mouth guard can be. It helps protect your teeth from damage after impacts and is a requirement in many contact sports. If you want to keep your mouth guard in top condition, it must be sterilized from time to time. Failing to do so can greatly increase your chances for getting bacterial infections and illnesses.

  • Cup
  • Anti-bacterial mouthwash
  • Toothbrush
  • Toothpaste

      Rinse your mouth guard off to remove any visible debris.

      Place the mouth guard into a glass and pour enough anti-bacterial mouthwash into the glass to completely cover the mouth guard. Allow the the mouth guard to soak in the mouthwash for at least 10 minutes.

      Remove the mouth guard from the mouthwash. Apply a small amount of toothpaste to a toothbrush and brush the entire mouth guard. This removes any smaller debris that may have remained after the initial rinse and soaking.

      Rinse the toothpaste off and set the mouth guard aside to dry.
